The Battle we are engaged in.

Today marks the day General Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia. You may be surprised when you take a look at the history and see some of the main reasons why the South Seceded from the union. The battle was not about slavery until half way through, and even then it was only to keep the European powers from aiding the South. The south had been greatly taxed on its cotton market without fair representation. The states felt as if the Federal government was overstepping its bounds. They exercised their right to secede from the union peaceably enough. It is very interesting that when Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, the only slaves he only freed were those in the south (over which he technically had no control), not the slaves under his own control in the middle states. Slavery is very evil, but it did not become an issue in the war until 1863, two years into this bloody battle. The true cause of the war was disagreement over who holds the power, the states or the federal government. This battle was fought peaceably in 1790′s with the Kentucky and the Virginia Resolutions. Madison was both the author of the Constitution and the author of the Virginia Resolution. Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Kentucky Resolution, as well as the Declaration of Independence. Today we have this same battle going on. Hopefully we can keep it peaceable. Who has the power? Is it with the states and ultimately the people, or the federal government?

So what are your views on abortion, guns and taxes? Thanks Todd

Thank you Todd for bringing these up. The founding fathers left quite a legacy for us as a nation. It is quite a sad state that our federal representatives have mostly ignored this legacy.

this is how I feel about abortion,

“We declare the unalienable right of Life to be secured by our Constitution “to ourselves and our Posterity”. Our posterity includes children born and future generations yet unborn. Any legalization of the termination of innocent life of the born or unborn is a direct violation of our unalienable right to life.
The pre-born child, whose life begins at fertilization, is a human being created in God’s image. The first duty of the law is to prevent the shedding of innocent blood. It is, therefore, the duty of all civil governments to secure and to safeguard the lives of the pre-born.”

      Gun control is not constitutional.

In fact the gun control that LBJ put in place in 1968 was word for ward the same gun control established by Hitler in Nazi Germany.

“The 2nd Amendment strictly limits any interference with gun ownership by saying: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The right to bear arms is inherent in the right of self defense, defense of the family, and defense against tyranny, conferred on the individual and the community by our Creator to safeguard life, liberty, and property, as well as to help preserve the independence of the nation.”

Federal taxes are clear one of the issues taht the foundng fathers were trying to protect us from. They did not give the power for the people to be directly taxed by them but rather by the states, and mainly through sales tax.

“Since 1913, our Constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property have been abridged and diminished by the imposition on each of us of Federal income, payroll, and estate taxes. This is an unconstitutional Federal assumption of direct taxing authority.”

once again Todd thank you I hope this is informative.

I am voting for you !

The “Civil War”, or, what I call the War of Northern Agression, was our 2nd war of independence, in which, we all lost. I am waiting still for the day when the Senate, the House, and the Executive, apologizes to the American people!

    Tom
